Do you think you have occupational hearing loss?

Did you work in noise? Let’s see what you need:

You can first make an appointment for a free hearing screening (permanent offer). We will be able to determine if your profile could correspond to occupational hearing loss.

Don’t worry, having a claim accepted by the CNESST is less complicated than one might think. We accompany you in each of the steps in order to limit the number of appointements and the complexity of the paperwork.

Even if you are retired or the company you worked for has closed, you can still file a claim to the CNESST.

Many workers in Quebec are affected by hearing loss caused by their noisy work environment. Hearing loss can set in very gradually without the affected person even being able to detect the first signs!

Occupational hearing loss manifests itself in several ways:

  • Difficulty understanding in noise or in groups of people,

  • Listening to the television at a higher volume than before or higher than the ones around you,

  • Have the feeling that those around you are mumbling,

  • Making others repeat themselves often,

  • The presence of tinnitus (hissing type noise) is also a telltale sign of occupational deafness.

Many trades can be exposed to a damaging level of noise:

  • Firefighter

  • Policeman

  • Construction worker

  • Mechanic

  • Truck driver

  • Steel, metal, glass or plastic plant worker

  • Oil or petroleum refinery worker

  • Heavy machinery operator

  • Physical education teacher

  • Professional musician

  • Industrial or commercial sewing

  • Longshoreman or longshorewoman

  • Printing

  • Worker on an assembly line

  • and many others.

If your current or past work environment has had conveyors, compressors, noisy power tools, or other loud sources of noise, it's likely to have damaged your hearing.

If you think you match the profile described above, do not hesitate to consult to have your hearing assessed. You may be entitled to hearing aids paid for by the CNESST, services and fees included, as well as compensation for the loss suffered (according to certain criteria of severity of the hearing loss).
